Record-Breaking Viewership marks the Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship Final

The recent Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship, broadcasted on ITV4, saw a significant surge in viewership compared to the previous year. Held in Manchester, the tournament featured 12 top players from around the world, ultimately culminating in Mark Williams triumphing over Ronnie O’Sullivan with a remarkable 10-5 victory in a final marked by five century breaks.

The event garnered an average audience that was 58% higher than the figures from the preceding year. Moreover, the peak audience during the final’s evening session reached 874,000 viewers, marking an impressive 83% increase over the peak viewership of 2023. Overall, the tournament reached a total of 3.35 million individuals.

The cumulative audience for the week also experienced a significant uptick, rising by 69%. During the final, the audience share was 5.5% for the afternoon session and 4.5% for the evening session.

Notably, this was the first time the tournament was held at Manchester Central, where the arena saw a full house throughout the week, with 8,400 tickets sold compared to 3,400 in 2023.

Tom Rowell, WST’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It was an incredible week in Manchester. The top players showcased an exceptional standard of play and drama on the baize. Mark Williams’ comeback to win the final from a 5-3 deficit was truly astonishing.”

Rowell also praised the impressive ITV viewing figures and expressed delight in the continued growth of audience numbers throughout the season. Looking ahead, he mentioned the anticipation for the upcoming Cazoo World Championship, WST’s biggest event.

He concluded by acknowledging Manchester as a fantastic host city, with both players and fans offering nothing but praise for the venue. Expressing gratitude to the fans for creating an outstanding atmosphere, Rowell announced plans to return to Manchester Central in 2025, with tickets already on sale and selling rapidly.
