Saudi Arabia Announces 10-Year Deal to Host Prestigious Snooker and Nineball Pool Championships, Transforming Billiards in the Middle East

This year, Saudi Arabia is set to host two major annual sporting events, marking the beginning of a groundbreaking 10-year partnership with the World Snooker Tour and World Nineball Tour. In collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation and the Ministry of Sport for Saudi Arabia, the historic association will kick off this summer in Riyadh and Jeddah.

Starting in June (3rd-8th), the 2024 World Pool Championship, the pinnacle of the World Nineball Tour, will unfold at the Green Halls in Jeddah. A record-breaking prize fund of $1,000,000 will be contested by top-tier pool players, including world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, five-time US Open champion Shane Van Boening, and 2018 world champion Joshua Filler.

Following this, in August (31st-September 7th) in Riyadh, the inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters will take place, becoming the sport’s ‘fourth major’ alongside traditional Triple Crown events. With a prize pot exceeding £2 million, it stands as the second-richest event on the esteemed World Snooker Tour schedule in 2024.

Open to all 128 tour players and six local wild cards from the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation, the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters aims to elevate the sport’s status globally. HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Saudi Minister of Sport, expressed excitement, stating that hosting world-class events aligns with the country’s strategy to grow all sports and inspire active participation.

Under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s ongoing transformation, the country has embraced hosting major global sports events for both male and female athletes. Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport chairman, praised Saudi Arabia’s reputation for growth and new opportunities in sports, foreseeing a remarkable chapter for Snooker and Nineball pool.

Dr. Nasser Saab Al-Shammari, President of the Saudi Arabia Billiard & Snooker Federation, emphasized the game-changing impact of hosting these events, providing opportunities for local talent and accelerating the sports’ progress and development. Both events will prioritize community engagement, introducing new players to the sport and creating talent pathways.

Global television syndication will ensure a wide audience for both the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters and the World Pool Championship. The commitment to growing and developing the game in the region, along with offering wild card places to local talents, reflects the shared vision of the sports and the Saudi Arabian Billiard and Snooker Federation.
