Ng On Yee Clinches Thrilling Victory in 2024 Albanian Women’s Snooker Open

In a captivating showdown at the 2024 Albanian Women’s Open in Golem, Ng On Yee successfully fended off a spirited comeback from Mink Nutcharut, securing victory in a thrilling 4-3 contest. This marked the third clash for silverware between the Hong Kong potter and the Thai star during the 2023/24 World Women’s Snooker Tour.

Throughout the season, Mink, the women’s world number one, had triumphed in their previous two encounters. First, she claimed a 4-2 victory in August at the US Women’s Open, and then she repeated the scoreline last month to defend her Belgian Women’s Open crown. However, Ng turned the tables in this Albanian Open, though not without a challenge.

Ng, at 33 years old, initially dominated with a break of 52, racing to a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 lead. Yet, Mink displayed resilience, winning the next three frames consecutively to force a decider. Despite Mink’s momentum and her previous victories in their recent finals, Ng dug deep in a tense finale, securing success on the colours.

This triumph in the inaugural Albanian Women’s Open adds to Ng’s victory at the Australian Women’s Open in October, bringing her career tally of ranking titles to 19. In earlier tournament stages, Ng faced challenges but advanced, overcoming promising Chinese talent Bai Yulu, defeating long-term rival Reanne Evans in the quarter-finals, and narrowly edging past Rebecca Kenna 4-3 in the semi-finals.

While Mink had similarly overcome Bai in her semi-final, she settled for the runner-up spot this time. Looking ahead, the next event on the World Women’s Snooker Tour is the World Women’s Snooker Championship, scheduled to take place in Chang Ping, Dongguan, China, from March 11-17, 2024.
