The race is on for the coveted spots in the inaugural Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker in Saudi Arabia! The top eight players in the official world rankings by the conclusion of the Players Championship will secure their places in this historic WST event.

HE Advisor Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and World Snooker Tour, recently unveiled this exciting tournament as part of the Riyadh Season activities, scheduled to take place from March 4 to 6.

The ten-player competition will feature the world’s top eight players based on the official rankings, along with two wild cards. To determine the qualifiers, three events—German Masters (January 29 to February 4), Welsh Open (February 12-18), and Players Championship (February 19-25)—will contribute to the rankings.

As of now, the top eight players are Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Allen, Luca Brecel, Mark Selby, Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson, and Mark Williams. However, with three upcoming events offering valuable ranking points, this lineup is subject to change as players vie for their spots in Saudi Arabia.

The tournament kicks off on March 4th, starting with matches between the two wild cards and the players seeded seventh and eighth. The victors will progress to the quarter-finals. Luca Brecel, as the World Champion, will be the top seed, and the remaining seedings will be determined by the ranking order. More details regarding the format will be disclosed soon.

WST Chairman Steve Dawson expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We have had a fantastic reaction to the announcement of this new tournament, and the leading players will be determined to earn a place among the top eight and secure a place in Saudi. Let the race begin!”
