Belgian snooker star Luca Brecel, the reigning World Champion, secured his spot in the Shanghai Masters final with an impressive 10-7 victory over the formidable Neil Robertson, a 23-time ranking event champion.

Brecel’s triumph paves the way for an exciting showdown in the title match against the world’s top-ranked player, Ronnie O’Sullivan. The final will be contested over a best-of-21 frames format, with the victor claiming the prestigious £210,000 top prize. The last encounter between Brecel and O’Sullivan took place at the previous season’s World Championship, where Brecel emerged victorious with a remarkable 13-10 win, eventually clinching his first-ever Crucible crown.

Notably, Brecel missed a chance to ascend to the world number one position at the recent European Masters, where reaching the semifinals was necessary. However, he was narrowly defeated 5-4 by eventual champion Barry Hawkins in the round of 16. It’s worth mentioning that the rankings will remain unchanged following the Shanghai Masters, as it is an invitational event.

Today’s victory marked Brecel’s first win against Robertson, who had won their initial three encounters. On the other side, Robertson will continue to strive for an individual title, with his last win dating back to the 2022 Tour Championship. His sole tournament victory last season came at the World Mixed Doubles.

In the afternoon session, Brecel dominated with a commanding 6-3 lead. Although Robertson fought back and closed the gap to 7-6, Brecel’s decisive breaks and resilience secured a 10-7 victory, granting him a coveted spot in the Shanghai Masters final.

Reflecting on the impending final against O’Sullivan, Brecel acknowledged the challenge, recognizing O’Sullivan’s exceptional skill and historic success at the event. Brecel emphasized his attacking style of play and expressed his eagerness to give his best, focusing on both entertaining the audience and aiming for victory in the final clash.
