In a surprising turn of events, Jenson Kendrick, currently ranked 116th in the world, secured a remarkable 4-1 victory over former Crucible champion Stuart Bingham. This impressive win propels Kendrick into the next phase of the BetVictor English Open.

Kendrick’s journey to this point has been a challenging one, having only recently graduated from the Q School in 2022. Prior to this match, he had struggled to secure a victory on the professional circuit. However, the 21-year-old broke through with a stellar performance against the 2015 World Champion, Stuart Bingham. Kendrick took an early lead with a break of 67 and maintained his momentum, even scoring a 52 in the fifth frame, ultimately sealing the win. Kendrick has now earned his spot in the last 64 in Brentwood next month.

Meanwhile, Baipat Siripaporn, the World Women’s Champion, came tantalizingly close to her inaugural pro tour victory but relinquished a 3-1 lead, succumbing to Muhammad Asif in a hard-fought 4-3 battle. Siripaporn showcased her skill with a break of 63, initially securing her advantage. She had opportunities for victory in the fifth and sixth frames, but Asif staged a remarkable comeback to even the score at 3-3 before dominating the decider.

Dylan Emery delivered an impressive performance, securing a 4-2 victory over Noppon Saengkham, with notable breaks of 62, 88, and 70. Ricky Walden posted the highest score of the day, with a stunning 121, en route to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Jordan Brown. James Cahill also impressed with a 4-2 win over Manasawin Phetmalaikul, highlighted by runs of 140, 55, and 111. Joe O’Connor managed to pull ahead from a 2-2 deadlock, ultimately defeating Jimmy White 4-2.

All these victorious players will advance to the final stages of the competition, scheduled to take place from October 2nd to 8th in Brentwood. It’s worth noting that all matches involving the top 16 seeds have been held over for the Essex venue.
